What's Antu Ruca ?

ANTU RUCA (The house of the sun)

Antu Ruca wants to be a house for everyone, as bright as the sun, as quiet and simple as the spinning wheel; that is the reason why we spin, that is the reason why we knit and invite you to share with us that simple task, “as simple as a ring”, as firm as the warp, and as free as the flight of the butterfly.



“Once upon a time… there were beautiful lands, mountains, pampas, plants, trees, flowers, birds, butterflies, and all kinds of animals, smells and tastes, that man used to enjoy and look after”…

The ones who inhabited the American continent were not savages, they lived among each other in native civilizations, in South America, in the “Tahuantinsuyo” (the empire of the Incas), which in the Quechua language means “the four parts”.

In one of them, Kollasuyo, the southern part, today the provinces of Tucuman, Catamarca, and adjacent lands from Los Andes to Cuyo, they used to live on the agriculture, cattle farming and textile art.

In the beginning, textile art was made from camelids´wool such as alpacas, llamas, guanacos and vicunas. Later on, the Spanish brought sheep to these lands and begun the systematic hunt of camelids in order to obtain their wool, which made camelids become one of the species on the verge of extinction.

Vicunas and guanacos have kept their wild condition, while llamas and alpacas have gotten used to living among human beings.

Our products are made from the wool of our llamas, spun and knit by our own hands. Merging our own feelings and thoughts, we imagine every single creation, we think about its future owner, thanking our ancestors, our roots, our animals, and the vast wisdom, the love and health we have inherited. Antu Ruca is the synthesis of our quest for simplicity; our horizon is the house we have built upon gratitude. It is also our family, our children, our grandchildren, our animals.
